Splurge

Yesterday instead of painting the hallway (guess what I now HAVE to do today, since the carpet layer arrives bright and early Monday?!), I cased two of my favorite joints and went all out in a humongous splurge.

Said favorite joint #1: the Goodwill on Dumbarton.

Said favorite joint #2: the Salvation Army in Mechanicsville.

I was after these little guys:

I’d seen them when I was scouring Richmond for Tim’s Mom’s birthday present

That was almost exactly 30 days ago.

They were still right where I left them (almost).

I broke bank (don’t tell Tim) for them at a whopping 99 a piece.

99 cents, that is.

They’re cereal bowls of the Early American Pressed Glass variety, circa 1850-1910, the wagon wheel pattern.

Even more importantly than all that: I love them.

I would have bought them for Tim’s mom, but nearer and dearer to her heart were the berry bowls, which have the same basic pattern but are a little smaller and a little rounder.

Plus, we wanted to get her a set of at least six, and all I could find of these was a grand total of two.

The very same two that I now own.  And all they needed was a little bath.

I can’t wait to see what they look like full of fruit!

Those are beautiful! I stopped at a yard sale Saturday and found a pretty punch bowl and 12 punch glass set for $5. So if you’re having a party and want to borrow it, let me know:)

Those look really nice! You can use the bottom to press a pretty design in your home-made Oreo cookies.

Sally, that’s an excellent idea! I never would have thought of it, but now I’m really excited to try it. Thanks!!

I want to help you paint! Too bad we’re so far away, and I’m pregnant so I’m not supposed to be around the fumes 😦

I wish you were here to help, too! But even if you can’t help…you HAVE to come see what it looks like…sometime soon! We are on the way to so many good places, after all….:-)
