Home Improvement Coupons

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you’re either short on cash or crazy.

If it’s the former, here’s a great little discovery we made last weekend: Home Depot accepts Lowe’s coupons.

If you’ve moved any time in the last year (or maybe more, I’m not sure–I backdated mine 8 months and it still worked), you can print off a 10% off coupon from Lowes here.  If you’re smart like my husband, you print 2 just in case one gets torn or lost.  Then you ask a nice Home Depot associate about their coupon policy and find out that they’ll accept the 10% discount, too.  So you use one print out at Home Depot to save a bucket load on carpet and pad for your den, one print out at Lowes to make bank on a chest freezer you’ve always wanted, and for registering online you begin getting a deluge of more Lowes coupons with which to start the cycle all over again ($10 off $50–>Tim will get his torque wrench.  $25 off $250—>I will get my hydrangea bush.  Plus some peonies.  Plus some cedars.  Plus some other cool yardscape. Plus some ant killer ((we always have SUCH pleasant surprises waiting for us when we get home from our trips…))).

All told, since we’ve been making some big purchases lately, this handy little trick has already saved us over $100.

We had some ants (though not a ton) in the spring and early summer. My folks said to spray outside around the perimeter of your house. If you can tell the trails they’re using inside you’re supposed to spray those too (we didn’t because of the critters). I started with Raid super traps (I can’t remember the exact name, but I think they have 2 kinds of poison and/or last twice as long) and that seemed to take care of the problem after a couple of weeks so we didn’t end up spraying.
